On a sunny tufaceous balcony that sheer
drop from the cliff to the sea, to north of the Lattari mountains,
the town of Sorrento extends him among rich gardens and vast citrus
plantation. An enchantment that for a long time surprises and
induces to return to visit it. As the Sirens of the ancient Greek
enchanted the sailors, so the modern Sorrento enchants all of his
visitors.
Historical outlines:
Founded
by the Phoenician and colonized by the Greek and by the Romans, it
was dominated by the Goths and by the Longobards, up to become, in
the IX sec. dukedom. In 1133 it became Norman conquest and in 1558
it was sacked by the Turkish pirates. In 1799 it entered to belong
to the Republic Partenopea and it was theater of struggle between
the republicans and the bourbons
